History

Named after Shakespeare’s famous romantic tragedy, the Romeo y Julieta cigar brand was founded in 1875 by Inocencio Alvarez and Manin Garcia. Years after its establishment, this brand won many tasting competitions and was awarded many gold medals, as seen on its brand label. However, in 1903 a former head of the Cabanas factory in Havana named Jose Rodriguez Fernandez took over the Romeo y Julieta brand. Due to his skill in salesmanship and his love for traveling, Jose Fernandez promoted his brand worldwide, where it began to reach new heights of popularity.

One of the brand's most committed admirers was none other than Winston Churchill. Although Churchill had been a cigar enthusiast for many years prior, he admitted that Romeo y Julieta was his favorite.

To show appreciation for the prime minister, Romeo y Julieta produced a new cigar called the Churchill. This cigar is an amazingly smooth smoke with tobacco sourced in Cuba that delivers a burst of flavors. These range from toasted bread to double roasted coffee to caramel with hints of brown sugar, all in generous clouds of smoke that leave lasting flavors on the palate. The Romeo y Julieta Churchill is truly a cigar that every aficionado needs to try at least once in their lifetime.
