History
Cohiba is a superior quality Cuban cigar brand produced by Habanos S.A in Cuba and the Dominican Republic by the US-based General Cigar Company. Their cigars are firmly packed with high-grade matured tobacco sourced from the renowned Vuelta Abajo region in Cuba.
The brand was founded in 1966 by Eduardo Rivera, a local artisan working at the La Corona factory in Havana, Cuba. When Fidel Castro was given one of Rivera’s cigars by one of his bodyguards, they pleased Castro so much that he had a private supply produced for himself and to be used as a diplomatic gift. And thus began the Cohiba legacy.
Cohiba’s most well-known cigar is the Cohiba Siglo VI. With its caramel brown color and near perfect draw. Today it stands out as one of the best Cuban cigars on the market, with its rich grassy tones and resinous cedar scent, blended with notes of leather and coffee. The flavors of the Cohiba Siglo VI have come to be known as the mark of a classic Cohiba Cuban cigar and are best smoked on a special occasion.
Although Fidel Castro kept the Cohiba a secret, this mystery only added to the brand’s intrigue, and now Cohiba can boast of being one of the most well-known and coveted cigar brands across the globe.
